Climate changes....and tre problems ahead

"Rebuilding after fires is always going to be expensive. Your home may have been built and sold in the 1970s, but you’ll have to pay 2025 prices for materials and labor when you rebuild. California already faces some of the highest housing costs in the country and a shortage of construction workers. The Trump administration is pushing the price tag higher with tariffs on components like lumber and its campaign to deport people. About 41 percent of workers in California’s construction industry are immigrants, and 14 percent are undocumented."

Talented runners....

Mamede and Lopes in 1984 at Stockholms Stadion

On July 2, 1984, at Stockholm Stadium.....he and his club mate Carlos Lopes broke the current world record of the 10,000 meters. What could have been a brilliant career for Mamede never materialized due to his bad nerves during international championships. Just a few weeks later, and in excellent physical shape, he abandoned the race during the 10,000 meters final at the Los Angeles Olympics. In a time when psychological training was non-existent for elite athletes, his extraordinary talent was wasted.

His only individual medal at international level was a bronze medal at the World Cross Country Championships in Madrid in 1981. Fernando Mamede passed away on January 27, 2026, aged 74.

San Francisco, city of (no) shame....

..a common sight in the streets of SF

US most expensive city (one out of 11 000 inhabitants in SF is a billionaire). Common working people can not afford to live there anymore due to property prices, rental cost (3000 dollars/monthly for one bedroom apartment), private tourist accommodation...and so on. One of the results of such a "wealthy" city is 10 000 homeless people living in the streets due to drug-related problems, mental health problems, unemployment (or miserable salaries), and poverty. Massive cutbacks to mental health and public housing development as a result of neoliberal carcinoma, pushed the situation to a breaking point out of control. Because what you see in the streets of San Francisco, a few blocks away from the most expensive hotels, is no longer what we in Europe call poverty. What goes on in SF is a profound dehumanization of the most vulnerable.
